Job Summary:

The Department of Anesthesiology is recruiting a Graduate Medical Education Program Administrator to provide leadership to our department's educational administrative team (currently this consists of two GME Program Managers, one GME Program Coordinator, one Academic Program Specialist, and one Health Professions Education Specialist). The GME Program Administrator oversees our ACGME-accredited and non-accredited training programs, medical student education program, and our anesthetist education program as well as various other educational activities and initiatives within the department. Under the general direction and supervision of the Department Administrator, the GME Program Administrator will work in direct partnership with the Vice Chair for Education, and in consultation and collaboration with the department's Program Directors/Associate Program Directors, UW Health's Designated Institutional Official (DIO), and UW Health's Director of Graduate Medical Education.

Responsibilities:

Jointly responsible with Program Directors for accreditation and compliance of all education programs and residents/fellows in their programs. Supervises education staff and works closely with Program Directors and other faculty. Overall duties include operational oversight and strategic implementation of programmatic priorities to ensure high quality Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. Serves as subject matter experts in the field of GME, with oversight responsibility for recruitment, credentialing, curriculum, evaluation, accreditation, compliance, fiscal, and reporting processes. Works under general supervision of a Department Administrator or designee.
  • 15% Maintains a comprehensive understanding of accreditation program requirements and related policies, regulatory requirements, and hospital and program policies to provide expert consult to the Program Director and GME team members to maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory bodies and pertinent policies
  • 10% Provides expert consultation to Program Directors and staff regarding curriculum and evaluation needs while creating innovative and effective methods
  • 10% Utilizes data and best practices to inform strategic initiatives to advance GME HR Functions such as recruitment and resident/fellow well-being
  • 10% Counsels Program Directors, faculty, staff, and residents/fellows on policies, regulatory, accreditation, and board requirements
  • 10% Regularly attends all monthly program coordinator meetings, GME educational offerings, and GMEC. Participates in GME program reviews and serves on a GMEC subcommittee to assist with developing and implementing best practices. Actively participates at a national level in GME and participates in scholarly activity
  • 10% Oversees the residency/fellowship program budgets. Analyzes operational expenses, establishes best practices, and develops budget request to support new initiatives
  • 15% Develops processes and procedures to ensure program and resident/fellow compliance. Oversees strategic implementation of programmatic priorities
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

Qualifications:

Required:
-Minimum of 3 years of Graduate Medical Education Experience
-Minimum of 2 years of supervisory/management experience
-Advanced knowledge of GME practices, procedures and requirements to maintain accreditation.
-Successful track record of leadership in graduate medical educational programming
-Strong project management skills

Preferred:
-Knowledge of medical student education
-Experience with non-accredited fellowships
-Experience working with the UWH GME Office
-Experience creating, managing and overseeing an operating budget in an academic medical center or other healthcare setting

This position requires work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
