Consistent with the University’s mission and working collaboratively with the deans and vice presidents, the Office of the Provost advances the intellectual life of our scholarly community by supporting and advancing our academic programs and the scholarship of our faculty and students.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Curriculum Development, the Proposal Writer/General Associate develops written proposals for new academic programs (e.g., bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, certificates) in a variety of academic content areas to advance UMBC's mission to offer high quality programs to students that advance their knowledge and skills for meaningful lives and productive work in the 21st century.
The Proposal Writer interviews faculty who will be teaching in the program to gather information about the goals of the proposed program, courses to be offered, educational objectives, plans for program evaluation, employment opportunities for graduates of the program, and other pertinent information. In accordance with technical guidelines for proposals from the Maryland Higher Education Commission and sample proposals, the Proposal Writer drafts the proposal and collaborates with the faculty and the Assistant Vice Provost to refine the draft proposal into final form. Many but not all proposals will be in the content areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and many but not all will be at the graduate level.
Position is part-time (maximum 19 hours per week). A flexible schedule is available including the possibility for hybrid work.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor's degree and four years of work experience as a writer or other related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in English or writing is preferred.
A master's degree is desirable.

Salary:
Hourly Salary Range: $35-$40 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Hours: Part time, maximum 19 hrs./wk.

Additional Information: This is a temporary position. Initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
