HathiTrust Digital Library is a partnership of academic and research institutions offering a collection of 18+ million titles digitized from libraries around the world. We are administratively based at the University of Michigan Library and our staff are employees of the University.

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst who has experience organizing and analyzing data for service improvement and organizational decision-making, and an interest in applying their skills to our mission of making accessible the record of human knowledge.

You will be a member of a new team focused on business process, business intelligence, and project management, and, along with the team, you will help bring about organizational change and support HathiTrust's Strategic Vision . You will fill a new role to become our first business intelligence analyst, working collaboratively to develop an analytics program that will position HathiTrust to unearth insights about our collection and services, monitor and evaluate our performance and impact, demonstrate our value, and use assessment to drive planning and decision-making for future work. You will work alongside the Senior Project Manager and you will report to the Business Process Consultant Lead, who provides overall leadership for the team and guides the development of program strategy for business assessment and workflow design, portfolio and project management, and service road mapping and design.

On-site, hybrid, and remote options are available for this position as long as you reside full-time in the United States.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of HealthTrust's data ecosystem, including learning about current tools used and collaborating with HathiTrust staff and members to understand their data needs, and infuse that understanding into your work.
  • Guide HathiTrust into a new era of using data in a more coordinated and intentional way, increasing organizational and staff data literacy.
  • Guide the identification, organization, and analysis of collection and service metrics for learning, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Develop a robust and integrated analytics program to be implemented on a continuous basis, pulling collection and service metrics together into an organizational context to evaluate impact, demonstrate our value, drive planning and decision making, and tell our story.
  • Identify, implement, and manage processes and tools for data collection, reporting, and analysis of key metrics.
  • Guide the development and implementation of data policies, such as data privacy and retention policies, in partnership with the Enterprise Architect and other Team Leads.
  • Lead projects related to data collection and analysis, and support projects led by others as needed.
  • Understand diverse perspectives and promote the use of best practices to foster an inclusive climate that encourages and affirms all individuals.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • 5+ years of cumulative experience with the following:
    • Analytical programs/projects focused on service improvement, outcomes/impact assessment, and planning and decision making.
    • Analyzing large data sets, i.e. data sets with millions of data points, in environments such as R, Python, or SAS/SPSS.
    • Query design, report writing, and data visualization, using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
    • Knowledge of database structures and data architecture relevant to the development of dynamic reporting, including experience with SQL.
  • Experience communicating complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including leadership and decision makers, and contributing to increased data literacy.
  • An understanding of the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion expressed through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.

We have been thoughtful about the required qualifications listed in this posting to provide a framework for the core skills and competencies that are needed for success in this role.  We also recognize that talent and expertise come from a variety of experiences and value the unique perspectives each individual may have gained along their career journey. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment and encourage applicants who can demonstrate, through the application and interview process, that their skills are aligned to the role's needs.  We assess all qualified candidates based on their arrival point, not the path they took to get here. More information on the University of Michigan Library's Diversity Plan can be found here .

Your contributions in this role are essential to meeting the goals of HathiTrust's Building Resilience for Access and Preservation grant , a multi-year effort to strengthen our preservation and access mission.
